Electrochemistry

We have only been working in the field of thermodynamic investigations of electrochemical processes for a few years. However, we quickly realized that commercially available fuel cell or electrolysis test stands do not achieve the expected precision in temperature, pressure, and humidity control that we need for our research. Therefore, we implemented our own concept for a dynamic fuel cell test stand with up to 1.5 kW and supported other research groups in the implementation of their individual test stands.

01

Fuel Cell MEA Testbenches

At FAU, we have developed a unique test stand for the characterization of fuel cell MEAs. The thermodynamic operating points can be dynamically and very precisely adjusted over a wide range. Additionally, it is fully integrated into the IT infrastructure, allowing it to be directly coupled with simulation models. This enables quick parameterization of simulation models or the identification of optimal investigation points.

02

Twin Test Stands

For an innovative twin test stand concept at HiERN, we were tasked with designing and implementing the control and regulation systems. This test stand allows an integrated MEA to be operated and characterized both as a fuel cell and as an electrolyzer. This approach saves significant space and money in the laboratory.

03

CO2 electrolysis

At HiERN, a test stand for CO2 electrolysis was developed with two independent test bays. We were also able to contribute our expertise in sensor selection and test stand control.

04

FC Stack Testbench Modification

At THN, there is a desire to expand an existing FC stack test stand with comprehensive sensor technology. We have completely reprogrammed the test stand control system and were able to retain the existing hardware, as well as expand it for the desired additional sensors.
